Close to Home was founded by Drew Bensen in 2008. Drew has the true entrepreneurial spirit. From the beginning his dream was to help other people take the step to follow their dreams and to change their life as he did. In order to create the business during a recession he needed to work long and hard. After about four years of working every day and on the verge of burning out, Drew remembered his vision of helping others.
He wanted to use Close to Home as a vehicle to help people change their life. To help good people have the courage to leave the jobs and life that they are not happy with, to follow their dreams. He did not know how to achieve this. So, he started by hiring amazing, kind, honest people and paid them more than the industry standard. The flow of good and kind people started flocking in. Everyone that was hired was set up as an Independent Contractor. Each person has his or her own business license and can operate as their own company. He did this in order to pay them more and empower each person. The risk involved is Independent Contractors can get established and leave Close to Home to venture out on their own. Also the client may see this as a risk not dealing with one person. Drew quickly coached the clients on why it is important to have a team: the reliability as well as life/work balance.
What Drew and the team soon discovered was that they were creating something phenomenal. They were creating a culture. The people that come to work with Close to Home rarely leave. If they do, they are given a congratulations and full support by everyone. The culture that was created at Close to Home is that of support, empowerment, encouragement, and trust. When someone becomes a part of the Close to Home family, they are connected.
Close to Home is changing the pet sitting and dog walking industry all together.
