Meet Our Team
Drew started Close to home officially in 2008, but has been helping friends with their loved ones since 2000. His goal was to change the direct of his life and do what he loved. Stephanie is a native Seattleite who grew up in West Seattle and continues to live there today. She has spent the majority of her life around animals, and shares a home with a lab/border collie mix that she rescued ten years ago. When she’s not hanging out with her dog, she enjoys travel.
Born and raised in Maine until moving to Seattle in 2007, John lives in West Seattle and is currently studying to become a Vet Tech. He has one dog and one cat and likes to paint in his spare time.
Natasha grew up in north Seattle, and recently moved back. She has one fur baby, Artie, a rescue pup from Canada. She can regularly be found walking Green Lake or hiking in the Cascades. When she’s not cuddling with cats and dogs, she enjoys traveling.
Kim loves meeting new animal friends and their people, and especially enjoys getting to know those animals over time. She has a friendly and gentle nature that many animals recognize right away, and she is usually able to win over the hesitant creatures as well. Seattle has been home to Kim since 1995. She and her husband currently share their home with two senior cats, Tutu and Frank.
Crystal was born in Washington state and relocated to Kentucky at age 7, returning to Seattle at age 15. The time in Kentucky allowed her deep appreciation for animals and the outdoors to flourish, feeding the neighbors cows, biking local trails and rescuing the occasional turtle from the road. Since living in Seattle she has explored her artistic side and currently plays in local rock band Cabana.
Amy is a born and raised Seattleite and avid runner and soccer player. She loves to trail run with her dogs Lexie and Owen.
Sonja Furney is a born-and-raised Washingtonian who is passionate about making the lives of dogs and the people who love them easier. She volunteers for PAWS, has over ten years experience working with dogs, and is studying to become a professional dog trainer.
Vanessa is a Seattle gal who grew up in Ballard. She loves working with Close to Home because it gives her the opportunity to combine her background in counseling with her love for animals. Vanessa hopes to work with therapy dogs soon. She enjoys adventuring in the woods, the arts, and cozying up with a good book.
Aaron has lived in many places across the country, but calls the Northwest home. He has lived in west Seattle since 2003. He loves the outdoors and spend his free time enjoying extreme adventures. He has always had a dog in his life (including Great Danes, Mastiffs, Hounds, and Terriers), but he currently owns two Jack Russells.
In early 2015 Alison returned to the Pacific Northwest after twelve years away. Combining her love of animals and desire to start a new career, she joined the Close to Home team. Having been exposed to animals much of her life and working as a house sitter for many years, it has been a natural transition. In her free time, Alison enjoys spending time with her family, music/dancing, and learning new things.
Born and raised in Portland, OR, Alex has always called the NW home. Her connection with animals began at age 2 with her best friend, a Great Dane named Jonas. She‘s been walking and pet sitting for the last decade and enjoys finding creative ways to make animals feel relaxed and happy. When she’s not walking, she makes music and art, rollerskates, swims, and hangs out with her family pack.
Jordan is a gentle soul with a passion for the well-being of animals of all shapes and sizes. He is deeply committed to providing physical and emotional care for pets under his watch. Originally from the East coast, Jordan headed West for college and hasn‘t looked back since. When he isn’t taking care of pets, you can find him performing on stages across Seattle.
Lisa is originally from the Midwest, but has been in Seattle since 1990 - long enough to call it home. She has been passionate about cats all her life, and is delighted to work with Close to Home so she can spend quality time with with so many marvelous cats. At home, she also has a sweet 19-year-old kitty named Lucy.
Kaija is new to Seattle, having slowly worked her way up I-5 from the Bay Area. She has always felt a deep connection with animals, and at age five refused to eat meat for two months upon learning what it was. When she is not lavishing affection on other people’s pets, you can find her lavishing upon her own rescue dog and cat (Spagooter and Skwisgaar), hanging with her son and her partner, or pursuing her passion for art and activism.
Ben grew up in Maine, and is a more recent transplant to the Seattle. He grew up in a house full of animals, including both dogs and cats. Ben works full-time for the Coast Guard, but his love for animals finds him volunteering as a dog runner at Seattle Humane and working with Close to Home.
Jean is a born and raised West Seattle-ite and no matter how many times she leaves, she always settles back in West Seattle. Close to Home Pet Services gives her the opportunity to hang out with some sweet pups as well as keep her outside where she’s happiest. Her and her family have four dogs, three of which are rescues. All of their sweet boys are flat-faced lumps with many different needs.
Chaska is a full-time artist, part-time animal lover. When not creating, Chaska can be found hanging out with the pets at Close to Home and giving lots of love.
